Morfe at Elbjazz 2017 festival
The idea behind Morfé was to combine the wide varieties of jazz and East European folklore in a single band. Morfé was founded by Armenian drummer and composer, Hovhannes Avanesyan, in Minsk (Belarus) ten years ago. The other members of the band are Andrey Minkov (clarinet), Alexander Efimov (bass), Anatoly Taran (accordion), Vova Beher (drums) and Vitaliy Harmash (electronics).
The band band mixes classical instrumentation with electronic programming; ambient grooves are to be found alongside hypnotic bass lines, dance music and free improvisation. Morfé presents an original blend of traditional and modern music. The sextet has performed in several jazz festivals in Europe and has toured Poland, Russia and Finland. Morfé’s appearance at Elbjazz will be their debut in Germany.
